Last week, the MMC Research team attended The Growth Roadshow, hosted by the North East Chamber of Commerce at The Glasshouse International Centre for Music in Gateshead. The event brought together business leaders, economists and regional decision-makers to discuss the challenges facing the economy and what the Government needs to do to unlock growth.
MMC Research Managing Director, Natasha McDonough, was delighted to take part in the panel discussion alongside Andy Haldane, former Chief Economist at the Bank of England and President of the British Chambers of Commerce.
The discussion explored the priorities for the forthcoming Budget, with a focus on creating the right conditions for businesses to invest, recruit and expand. Rising operating costs, taxation, economic uncertainty and the need for greater confidence continue to influence business decisions, making stability and practical support essential.
For the North East, the opportunity is significant. The region has considerable strengths across sectors including advanced manufacturing, clean energy, technology and innovation. Turning that potential into sustainable economic growth requires collaboration between businesses, government and regional organisations, alongside policies that recognise the opportunities and challenges specific to the region.
